Despite having grown up in a rather structured environment given the duties which came with handling a farm that she'd been required to fulfill on a daily basis, Alina had never been the type to handle orders well. It wasn't that she couldn't handle being told what to do but the idea was one that had always made her grind her teeth in irritation. Of course, the fact that it seemed Klaus found enjoyment in bossing her around and having her do the majority of his dirty work only made her intense dislike for the Original that much worse. Well, that and the fact that he'd completely torn her life apart with a single action. Before he'd turned her into the monster that she now was, a vampire to be exact, her life couldn't have been described as anything more than ordinary. Still, it was the life that she'd chosen and losing everything that she'd loved in a matter of hours definitely hadn't been the way to win her over. If anything, it had only served to make her even more irritable as the idea of being told what to do by the likes of him repulsed her to no end.
Not to mention he can kiss my ass if he thinks I'm going to keep letting him threaten Aidan's life every time I question his authority, she noted silently as she cradled the toddler to her chest, wanting to make sure he was indeed completely out before laying him down for the night as she was well aware of how Klaus wasn't a fan of his crying in the middle of the night. The bastard may have a claim on me but he better learn to leave my son out of this if he wants my cooperation. I don't care who the hell he thinks he is but threatening to murder a toddler because I don't listen is sick; even for him. It was only when Alina was content with the steady, deep breaths her son was inhaling that she brushed his forehead with her lips before laying Aidan down in the playpen they'd taken to hauling with them now that they were on the move. Covering him with the worn blue blanket that she'd managed to snag before they had left, she glanced out the window of the home they'd overtaken at the familiar shape of the full moon before wishing with all her heart that she and her son were anywhere but there.
Away from Klaus, she'd at least have a chance at a normal life; or however normal one's life could get when they were frozen at the age of 22 forever. That being said, Alina was also painfully aware of the fact that her life would never be the same again. Klaus had made sure of that the moment that he'd fed her his blood and then killed her; forcing on her transformation from human to immortal. This wasn't what she'd wanted but, nevertheless, life had dealt her this hand and she'd do what she could with it. Sneaking out of the room was no issue at all given the ease of her movements now and less than a second had passed before she was outside the bedroom and closing the door silently behind her. Having noticed Klaus in the library before she'd decided to put Aidan down for the night, she had no doubts that the hybrid would still be there and so quickly flitted back downstairs and into room with unusual ease. "So," she began without pretense, wincing visibly as she suddenly felt a sharp pain in her back that was gone almost as soon as it had arrived, "my father's obviously not here. What's next on the to-do list for your master plan?" Hope this is okay...muse was a little weird >.> |

Well, this was frustrating.
The information Klaus had gained about Robert Carter and his pack had led him here – a dead end. The werewolves could be slippery creatures, disappearing off the grid without hesitation. Thankfully, Klaus was similarly good at tracking them – it was just that every now and then he hit a snag like he had this week, and was left to wallow in the mess of unimportant information that would hopefully lead to a breakthrough. Eventually.
Unfortunately, there wasn’t much he could do out under the full moon night. While he didn’t have too much to fear from a werewolf’s bite, it certainly wasn’t a pleasant experience, and he didn’t want to have to fight and restrain such beasts until they returned to their human forms. He needed information out of them, not growled (implied) death threats and battles of tooth and claw. Besides, he highly doubted that any of the possible methods he had for transforming them would work while they were such savage beasts.
So Klaus and Alina had hunkered down in a lovely old forest-swaddled house while he made use of the late owner’s library. As they were currently tracking Alina’s father, he thought it was only fitting that it be only the two of them on this particular outing. (Alright, three of them, if you count young Aidan.) Damon had been sent off after another pack – way out in the old country, somewhere in Europe. Klaus was planning on meeting him within the next few days; he didn’t want to give the vampire too much leeway, but it had been long enough that Klaus knew he could handle him from afar.
He was flipping idly through a book that had looked somewhat useful and had fallen completely flat when Alina finally came down to join him. She had been putting her son to bed, it seems. It was incredibly strange: Klaus traveling with an infant. Okay, he was three years old, so he wasn’t quite an infant. But to the hybrid that was over one thousand years old… yeah, Aidan was. But, it seemed that was the price to pay for having Alina along. She either didn’t have anyone she trusted her son with, or she didn’t trust Klaus whenever she wasn’t looking.
After all, who knows what he could get done without actually needing to be somewhere to do it. He had strings he could pull.
Klaus closed the book and instead of turning toward Alina, lifted a glass of whiskey to his lips. He had found it tucked away in the house’s cabinets, and had decided, why not? The ice cubes clinked as he took a drink, and he shrugged at Alina’s question. “We look elsewhere, simple as that. I’m a patient man, Alina. I can hunt him across the world if I have to. But I won’t have to.” The confidence in his voice was unwavering. It was as simple as that, just as Klaus had said. He caught her wince out of the corner of his eye – the motion attracting his attention – but he didn’t consciously notice it or assign it any importance.
Oh how wrong that was.

Having been led around for the last few weeks like a dog on a rather tight leash, Alina was tired of not being told anything until it was time to put into action whatever plan her 'boss' - as there really was no word apart from that one under the given circumstances - had thought up in what she believed would be yet another futile attempt to catch her father. No, she refused to be kept in the dark any longer. She wanted answers and she wanted them now. After all, Klaus was the whole reason she'd had to leave the entire life that she'd worked so hard to build for herself behind at a moment's notice. While she understood that she now posed a risk to everyone she had been forced to leave behind, that didn't make the transition any easier on her and Aidan was grumpier than ever these days; more than likely from the stress she was putting off emotionally coupled with the lack of proper sleep he had been receiving as she couldn't get him on a proper sleep schedule with all the traveling they'd been doing. Of course, the fact that she didn't trust the Original farther than she could throw him wasn't helping but she was going to get answers...tonight.
Considering the utter and complete hell that he's been putting both my son and myself through since showing up that day on my doorstep, I'm pretty sure that I've earned it. The whole reason we were both dragged into this is because he turned me anyways, and that was almost a full month ago. I daresay I've earned the right to know what he's planning. Besides, it's not like I'd contact Dad even if I could. He's better off as far away from Klaus as possible. It was only after making sure that Aidan was out for the night that Alina laid him down in his playpen before making her way out of their room and back downstairs to the library where she'd taken note Klaus was earlier. Surprsingly though, she felt slightly off - something which hadn't happened since the beginning stages of the last flu she'd caught as a human. It was weird, as though every bone in her body ached even though she knew she would never get sick again given that she was now a vampire. Still, she was determined to worm whatever information out of her creator that she could manage and nothing was going to distract her from that.
The first step into the small library of the cottage they'd chosen to reside in for the night brought about a sharp pain that wasn't the least bit expected, however, and it was because of this that Alina was unable to hold back the involuntary wince that flew through her body in response. There was no way in hell that she was about to show any weakness around Klaus in case he tried to use it against her later though and so she attempted to steel herself against the aches and pains which were quickly becoming more noticeable as she finished her rather pointed question. It was only when it became obvious that Klaus seemed to be pretending to ignore that she was in fact speaking to him that she grew angry and she didn't bother trying to hide the low growl which was more feral than any she'd released since becoming a vampire that slipped past her lips. What the hell? she thought to herself, the sound even managing to catch her off guard despite the fact that she had been the one to make it. What am I now, some kind of wild dog? I mean, I know vampires can snarl and all of that but that sounded like one of the wolves Dad shot on the ranch after we found out it was responsible for picking off the livestock. That was just...weird.
Pulled from her thoughts when he finally decided that she was worthy of his attention, Lina couldn't believe what she was hearing. They were just supposed to keep looking, even though they'd been on what seemed like a cold trail for weeks now with nothing to show for it except an exceptionally grumpy three-year-old. "You've got to be kidding me!" she snapped, far angrier than even she knew she had a right to be and unsure as to why that was. "Aidan hasn't had a decent night's sleep in over a week and his nap schedule is screwed all to hell but does that matter to you? Of course not! All you care about is -" It was at that moment that she completely lost any breath in her lungs as a quick succession of three snaps (two in each leg and one in her lower back) caused her to drop to the floor as a high-pitched scream erupted from her lungs; the likes of which she had never uttered before in her life. Breathing heavily as she could feel more of her bones snapping with each passing second, Alina managed to lift her head to meet Klaus' gaze just long enough to utter a single question before her breath was snatched away from her once more as she released yet another scream of pure pain into the air. "What the hell is happening to me?" Let me know if I need to change anything <3 |

Klaus’ eyebrows rose on his forehead as Alina’s growl ripped through the air. His eyes flicked over to her, watching her without really turning his head, noticing that she was surprised by the force of the sound as well. It was mildly amusing, in some ways, since Alina had been doing her absolute best since her transition to act as human as possible. It didn’t surprise Klaus, especially with how vehemently she had despised becoming a vampire. After all, there was bound to be some self-hate involved after you brutally murder your fiancé for his blood. Alina just tended to focus that hate on her status as a vampire, and on Klaus.
“Whoa there,” he scoffed, unable to hide the small grin on his lips. He shook his head before taking another drink. Little Aidan wasn’t the only one getting grumpy, it seemed.
It was only when Klaus had finally answered her question and Alina responded with near outrage that the hybrid turned to face her. You know, she had a perfectly valid reason for being pissed off at him – and that was the very reason she was ranting about now – but Klaus had a very simple counter-argument for her. She could find a friend and leave little Aidan at home. After all, the life on the road was nowhere near appropriate for a three-year-old. And, honestly, it was a bit of a drag having to accommodate him.
Klaus knew there was a reason he wasn’t too fond of children. I mean, he didn’t entirely mind them, but he had very limited experience with them, and wasn’t too worried about changing that. Alina seemed determined to force his hand, though, since apparently there was no one else she could trust with her son.
Not even, you know, when she had nearly killed him herself. But hey, if she was finally getting over the trauma, it wasn’t Klaus’ duty to bring it back up.
Klaus was just getting ready to interrupt Alina’s little spiel when she did the job herself… kindof. His eyes narrowed as she dropped to the down, and he leapt to his feat – shoving his chair back from the small library table – mind racing as he tried to figure out just what in the world was happening. However… the snaps of bones breaking and realigning and mending, and the familiar screams of pain quickly gave him an answer that he wasn’t quite ready to believe. “No…” he breathed out, but his features twisted into a strangely excited expression, his lips pulling wide in a grin. It was all a bit macabre, actually.
He crouched down beside Alina – not coming too close to her sharply-flailing body – and almost barked out a laugh. “Just relax. You’re transforming, that’s all. I would help ease your pain, but unfortunately there’s nothing I can do. But you – you may have solved my little problem, Alina. I may not need your father after all.”

Though she refused to admit it, especially to Klaus, Alina was finally beginning to adapt to the life of vampirism which had been forced upon her those couple weeks ago. Her father had always taught her that she needed to change her course according to whatever life threw her way if she actually wanted to survive and her willingness to drink from the blood bags Klaus kept on hand showed in more ways than one that she was at least trying. That wasn't to say that she enjoyed it by any means considering that she'd also been raised to have very high moral values but it was drink from those or risk hurting some innocent person and she'd take the former any day if it meant keeping complete strangers safe from the monster she could become did she not feed on a regular basis. Still, there was only so much that one person could handle in such a short period of time which helped explain her immediate shock and resistance in the moments when the first breaking of her bones began.
Even through all of the screams and unimaginable pain that shot through her slim frame - because of what she honestly had no idea, Alina fought against her body mentally with everything she had. It didn't make sense....she wasn't a werewolf so why the hell was the transformation Klaus had described to her last week happening to her now? It was only when she caught the Original's voice releasing a single breath which also happened to contain the word 'No' that she immediately realized two things. The first was that Klaus knew what was going on just then, even if she didn't. And the second? The second was a far more painful reality. Even though it was obvious just how much pain she was in by the blood-curdling screams which she couldn't help but emit, his expression told her that he was actually excited about whatever the hell she was now going through. As if turning me into a vampire and letting me kill my fiance wasn't enough? No, he's done something else to me. He has to have.
Unable to believe just how heartless Klaus had to be for wearing the expression like that of a child on Christmas morning while she herself was writhing on the floor before him, it took everything in her not to launch herself at him and attempt to rip his head off. Not that she could move had she wanted to but her bones were already literally breaking themselves so how much more pain could he honestly put her through? Still, she wasn't exactly able to do much while her body felt as though it were being ripped apart limb by limb (though it actually kind of was) and so she was left with the only real option of asking him just what was happening to her as she had absolutely no idea while his expression easily let her know that he did. Her guard instantly went up the moment he moved in to kneel beside her but the transformation but the fact that she was so far gone in a mixture of the pain and shock her body was experiencing made it impossible for her to so much as even try and move away from him.
Because of this, Alina simply released yet another howl of pain - this time coupled with a snarl of anger meant just for Klaus - in response to his laughing as he seemingly watched the process with what looked to be interest in his eyes. He wanted her to relax? Yeah right, as it she could just ignore all of the debilitating pain that was coursing through her entire body right then. "I'm...what?" she managed, her voice breathy as a result of the onslaught of breaking bones which she was trying her hardest to suffer through as quietly as possible at this point to save any chance there might be that Aidan would manage to sleep through all this. "How the hell can I be transforming? You said only werewolves can turn and I'm not one of those so how it this even possible?" Any remaining air was torn from her lungs then though as she arched involuntarily when the breaking shifted to her spine. Still, she couldn't help but feel a tiny sense of relief at what Klaus had said. Even if she was more his focus now then ever, at least her dad was safe; for now anyways.
She's gonna kill him >.> |

Now, there are people in the world who would call Klaus sadistic – many people in fact. And while there was a part of that that may be true, he often had other reasons for finding pleasure in another person’s pain. Perhaps that pleasure was simply from the gratifying sense of revenge (whether anyone else would believe the victim had wronged him – it was only important if he thought so), or perhaps it was simply that their pain or death gained him something in the end. Alina’s situation was part of the latter example; if she was truly transforming like he thought she was, then all of his searching and plotting for ways to create other hybrids had finally reached fruition.
It made sense though – now that he thought about it. Her father was a werewolf, was he not? Alina could have had the gene sitting dormant in her DNA, never realizing its full potential because she had never killed anyone. That is, until Klaus had turned her – and her poor, unfortunate fiancé became her first victim. But Klaus would have thought that the vampirism would have negated any werewolf genes. Most people probably thought that way – if they thought about this situation at all. But… if the kill actually had triggered there werewolf gene, after she had been turned, then she was truly a hybrid.
Who knows, there might even be others like her out in the world – accidentally created by ignorant or messy vampires. What a thought. He would have to hunt them all down. That, or maybe he could just create more; as long as he was hunting down werewolf families and packs anyway, he could turn a few of their “human” family members in the hopes that they would be similar to Alina. And even those who would turn out as ordinary vampires and not Klaus’ highly prized hybrids could still be useful.
With a train of thought like that, was it any surprise that Klaus was grinning from ear to ear while Alina flailed on the ground and screamed in pain?
He gave his head a slight shake as Alina forced her ragged breathing into words – a sound that was between a “tsk” and a “shhh” escaping his lips. “Like I said, relax. It only hurts more if you keep fighting it. Trust me – I can honestly say I know what you’re going through.” Unfortunately, the grin on his face said otherwise, no matter how truthful the Original was actually being. “You’re right about not being a werewolf though – but your father is. I think that you had the dormant gene, dear, and since you have to kill someone to activate it… I think I have more to thank your fiancé for.
And I must congratulate you, Alina. You’re my first hybrid.”
