WE ALL FALL SHORT OF GLORY LOST IN OUR FATE.
TAGGED: Clem WORDS: 650
Despite the fact that it had been three days since his unforeseen encounter with the very Original he'd been trained from birth to exterminate, Caspian was still in a rather severe state of shock. His parents had always told him that he couldn't outrun his destiny but he'd never actually believed them...until now, that is. All he'd ever wanted was a chance at utter and complete normalcy, to live the life that was boring to most people but would be an escape for him considering that he'd been raised as a hunter. Given half the chance, he'd have traded lives with the first person who agreed to without a second thought but that wasn't exactly possible and now luck had seemingly turned its back on him altogether. After all, how else could he possibly explain the amount of bad luck that life had decided to throw at him within such a short period of time.
Not only had his family chosen to disown him for simply not wanting to live the way they so desired, but his sole choice to leave for what he'd prayed would be a better life had in fact brought him face to face with the very monster whose existence in this world his family was out to end permanently. How much worse could things get? he asked himself mentally as he deposited an armful of books onto one of the only study tables provided in the seemingly ancient building that was home to the Mystic Falls Library. I never asked for any of this. Sure, the idea of killing off evil creatures sounded pretty awesome as a little kid but that's not a life. At least, it's not the life I want. Hell, maybe I wanted to be a doctor or a lawyer but I doubt even that would've been enough for Mother and Father. No, they just wanted another hunter to improve their odds of finding him.
It was what some might consider a 'difficult truth to swallow' but one thing Caspian had years of practice dealing with was the truth. His family cared nothing of his feelings, only of what he could bring to the table as far as their cause was concerned. It was because of this above all other possible reasons that he hadn't called them to say that he'd found Klaus the moment he'd made it home from the movie. No, this was something he would take care of on his own. Hell, had Klaus not recognized him for his lineage Cas probably wouldn't have even let himself be bothered with the idea of going after him but he also knew that his life was now at stake thanks to a combination of who is he was related to and how he'd been raised. He just had to make his move before Klaus decided to try something. If he didn't, he was as good as dead.
Shaking loose his backpack from its place on first one shoulder and then the other, Caspian dropped down into the hard-backed chair before carefully setting the sack down on the floor beside it. Unzipping it with skillful hands, he withdrew from it a laptop and power cord which he plugged in so that it could charge while he looked through the books he'd managed to find on supernatural lore as he recalled the electronic dying when he'd used it last. Settling in as comfortably as he could give that he was still slightly on edge, Cas sighed in obvious annoyance as he picked up the top book on the pile - an old leather-bound copy of 'Creatures of the Night: A Complete History'. Unlike back home where he'd had an extensive library of hunting texts at his disposal, he had to improvise right now and the book in his hands seemed like as good a place to start as any.
