Work. She could remember a time when the women's job in society was to stand as a beacon of everlasting devotion to their husbands, to stand still, look pretty and - on occasion - take the time to converse with others of their society and station. The men of the household would bring the money home and the women would play dutiful wife, daughter, etc. Granted, Lexi Branson had never been one for that kind of thing - she'd been far too independant to let men have all the fun - but the idea had been there. She'd lived for three hundred and fifty years... Not counting the time she'd gotten staked and then been brought back from the dead as a reborn human. She tried not to think about that bit of her history.
The thing was, she was different. Thanks to the powers of the Original Witch, she'd been brought back after Damon Salvatore - the fanged, cocky bastard - had killed her. But she wasnt a vampire anymore. Thats not how things like that worked. She'd been reborn into the Jacobs family as a human. Strangely enough, she was grateful to the witch who'd done this to her. In one night, Lexi had lost everything - her life, her love, her best friend - and now that she was human again, she could try to get it back. The only thing she regretted was that Stefan was no longer alive to share it with her.
Focusing back on the present, Lexi looked around and noticed that the Grill was relatively empty tonight. Save for a few people playing pool and a couple in a booth. Ah, well.. Just gave her some more time to clean and get everything ready for closing later tonight. Refill drinks, take down orders, clean the bar, clean the back, organize the stock, etc, etc, etc. It was all a typical days work for her. Not that she minded. She found working rather soothing, really. Something to take her mind off of everything she - and the others she'd been friends with - had had to deal with in days long past.
She was filling out an order form at the bar for more stock when she heard someone step up to the bar counter. Without her vampire senses, she couldnt tell who - or what - the person was, but she didnt particularly care at the moment. Customers were customers, after all. "Just give me two more seconds here and I'll be with you right away." she said before she finished filling out the form, setting it down behind the bar, still without looking up at her customer, "Okay, what can I get for you?" She had no idea her world was about to be turned upside down.
